Shop Doors

Insulated shop doors. Frame and trim is old growth Douglas Fir. Exterior panels are Douglas Fir finished with shou sugi ban and linseed oil. Interior tongue and groove is hand planed cedar. Hinges are unfinished steel.

Shou Sugi Ban

Shou Sugi Ban

The exterior parts of the door frame and panels were given an age old treatment called "shou sugi ban" first the parts were charred with a hot flame. Then the soot was brushed with natural straw bristle brush. Finally the wood received a coat of diluted linseed oil.
